A Corner of My Mind

Today’s cool down in my barre fitness class was set to the tune of Spandau Ballet’s “True.” I hope I’m not the only person out there who hears the beginning of this song and hopes beyond hope that “Set Adrift on Memory Bliss” unfolds instead of “True.”

Clearly the best thing to ever happen to “True” was P.M. Dawn. People who know me pretty well are accustomed to my “twice-in-a-decade” rant about P.M. Dawn, mostly about how amazing they were. I was 10 when they released “Set Adrift on Memory Bliss” and it was the first non-kid, non-mainstream pop song that really spoke to my pre-teen self.

Watching the video +20 years later I’m left wondering just how strong an imprint this song left; after all, my current diss obsession is of artists in costume (usually in spandex) performing on the beach. I don’t have proof of smoke machines but who knows what I’ll uncover next year.
